In a panel that took place at the digital event yesterday, gaming icon and legendary developer Sid Meier gave a talk that looked back over his impressive career and gave us some great insight into some of the projects he’s worked on. The creator of Civilization, Pirates!, Railroad Tycoon, SimGolf, and more joined Rock Paper Shotgun to discuss some of the most notable projects he’s overseen during his illustrious career. During the panel, Sid drops more information on his upcoming book, Sid Meier’s Memoir!: A Life in Computer Games, and Rock Paper Shotgun’s very own Nate Crowley guides us through nearly 40 years of gaming history. There are some interesting bytes of information during the panel, especially if you’re a fan of the Civilization titles. Sid’s retelling of the launch of Civ 2 – which went up against juggernaut releases like Civilization 2, Warcraft II, Myst, Command & Conquer, and Duke Nukem 3D in 1998 – is particularly compelling. If you’re interested in what that Sid has achieved with his life (and want to know more about the abandoned DinoCiv game that never came to be), the panel is almost an hour’s worth of educational, entertaining chat that’s perfect for a bit of Sunday morning viewing. There are more PAX Digital x EGX Digital panels planned for the next few days, and you can also catch some developer-lead game reveals as part of the online-only event, too. Disclaimer: PAX and EGX organiser ReedPop is the owner of VG247’s parent company Gamer Network.
